Most concrete projects start with taking something out. A driveway that’s cracked past repair, a patio poured over a base that was never compacted, front steps that have separated from the house, a slab sitting where the new addition needs to go — all of it has to come out cleanly, and be hauled away, before anything better goes in.

We’ve been doing removal as the first phase of concrete work in Pittsburgh for years, which is why we also do it as a standalone service. Breaking out and disposing of reinforced concrete is not the same job as pouring it. It takes the right equipment for the site, a plan for protecting what stays, and somewhere legitimate for the debris to go — and on Pittsburgh’s narrow streets and steep driveways, getting equipment in and material out is often the hardest part of the whole scope.

Because demolition is where the surprises live, we look before we quote. Old slabs frequently sit on top of an even older one. Gas, water, and electrical lines run through places no drawing shows. A garage slab may be tied into a retaining wall that’s structurally holding back the yard. We call in utility locates, walk the site, and write a fixed-price scope that accounts for what’s actually there, so you’re not getting a change order halfway through the tear-out.
